To Be Strong

I have been thinking about the difference between mistakes and weakness. Here is what I think I've decided. I am not convinced I have completely learned the lesson yet so feel free to add your thoughts if you have them.  Mistakes are controllable, weaknesses are overcomable.  Mistakes generally are bad decisions that we are bound to make because of the gift of moral agency. We can limit the amount of mistakes we make by focusing on Christ striving to live His gospel.  Weaknesses are divinely given flaws that can only become overcome through the atonement of Jesus Christ. In Ether 12:27 we learn that if we have faith, our weaknesses can be made strong.  Maybe the answer to fixing both is the same. Focus on Christ. Repent. Use the Atonement of Christ.  But a weakness is not something we should expect to go away in a day. Or maybe it will never go away.  I get anxious when we talk to people on the street. And because of that anxiety, I often ignore promptings ...

The Peace which Passeth all Understanding

If you follow European news, you might have heard already that Portugal was part of a massive blackout this past Monday. So that is my excuse for not sending an email 2 weeks in a row.  Though the blackout ended up being harmless, it was scary as a missionary. We were told that Portugal had been cyberattacked. We were given instructions to go to the chapel immediately and make sure that we had a supply of food and water. The markets were crowded with people stocking up on water jugs, bread and toilet paper(pois) Our phones lost service so after recieving the emergency text, we had no idea what was going on. From the talk of people on the street and the members who stopped by the church, this was the start of war.  Obviously that was a little dramatic. But with all the panic and the lack of information, it felt real. Even so, we weren't that scared. Definitely had a little anxiety but overall we were blessed with a peace that my companion quotes as "the peace of God which passe...
