I Believe in Angels

I am scared yall think I dont like my mission so I just want to start out with saying that I am sOo happy to be here in Portugal serving the Lord!! Even though every week has its downs, they are completely overshadowed by the jOy of being a servant of the Lord. For every hard moment, I have been blessed with an extra measure of strength:)) 

In regards to my subject title, I have been thinking a lot about angels lately! I one hundred percent, wholly and completely believe that we are surrounded by angels, both on this side and on the other. One of my favorite Bible stories is when Elisha prays that the eyes of his servant may be opened to the angels going into battle with them. (2 Kings 6)

15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? 
16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. 
17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

So if you are feeling alone this week remember that you have an army of angels there to comfort you and ready to help you fight your battles and bear your burdens. 

In honor of Thanksgiving this week, I want to say thank you to all of you who have been earthly angels to me <3 I am so grateful for all of your support. Especially my family!! I know my siblings probably won't make it this far into my email but I love you guys. Thank you for always being there. And my parents!! You are the best examples I could have asked for in this life. 

A few other occurences
- We did divisãos on Friday and I got to be with Sister Kezos for the day!! And Sister Lemmon! I learned so much from both:) 
- We had 5 friends at church with us!! A huge miracle
- Another friend who was preparing for baptism decided that this gospel has taught him the importance of family and so he is going to start attending meetings with his wife instead. Happy sad. 
- finally tried acai! Even better than I was told 
- went to the temple!!! I really needed that spiritual uplift 
- turns out I have been saying "socks" instead of "ways" in Portuguese...(meias v maneiras) 
- I am playing violin with the mission presidents daughter for a Christmas concert in Lisbon! Super fun except they want me to improvise a new part. Definitely not my stength haha wish me luck.

I Want to be a Butterfly

  On the byu speech grind and I found this cute story from a talk by Wendy Watson(Nelson) "A children’s story tells of a caterpillar named Yellow who is trying to find out what she should be doing with her life. In her wanderings she discovers another caterpillar seemingly caught in some gauzy, hairy filament. Concerned, she asks if she can help. He explains that this is all part of the process of becoming a butterfly. When she hears the word butterfly, her whole insides leap. “But what is a butterfly?” she asks. The cocooned caterpillar explains: “It’s what you are meant to become.” Yellow is intrigued but a bit defiant. “How can I believe there’s a butterfly inside you or me when all I see is a fuzzy worm?” On further reflection she pensively asks, “How does one become a butterfly?” And the answer? “You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.” The caterpillar life is appealing at times. The Peace which Passeth all Understanding

If you follow European news, you might have heard already that Portugal was part of a massive blackout this past Monday. So that is my excuse for not sending an email 2 weeks in a row.  Though the blackout ended up being harmless, it was scary as a missionary. We were told that Portugal had been cyberattacked. We were given instructions to go to the chapel immediately and make sure that we had a supply of food and water. The markets were crowded with people stocking up on water jugs, bread and toilet paper(pois) Our phones lost service so after recieving the emergency text, we had no idea what was going on. From the talk of people on the street and the members who stopped by the church, this was the start of war.  Obviously that was a little dramatic. But with all the panic and the lack of information, it felt real. Even so, we weren't that scared.
